A report on Photothermal Control of Micro - and Nanoobjects

Prof. Frank Cichos received his diploma in plasma physics and PhD in ultrafast spectroscopy from Chemnitz Technical University in Germany. He was a Feodor Lynen Postdoc fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the University of Bordeaux in France in the field of coupled quantum chemical molecular dynamics simulations. In 2003 he became a Juniorprofessor for Photonics in Optical Materials . Since 2007 Prof. Cichos is heading the Molecular Nanophotonics Group at the Faculty of Physics and Earth Science at the University of Leipzig. He is the director of the Peter Debye Institute for Soft Matter Physic and has held visiting positions in Bordeaux/ France and the Princeton/USA.

Prof. Cichos has recently contributed to the field of photothermal single particle detection by photothermal correlation spectroscopy. His current research interests are focused on the optical generation of highly local and dynamic temperature fields for the manipulation of single particles and molecules. He is developing photothermally driven thermophoretic micromachines exploring hydrodynamic interactions, non-equilibrium statistical mechanics and information driven processes in active materials.
